Connollys of Moy Tyrone IFC Semi Final
Moy 2-13 Clonoe 0-13
Intermediate championship favourites Clonoe suffered defeat to Moy in Pearse Park, Galbally, on Saturday afternoon. Played on an excellent pitch May outscored their opponents 1-4 to 0-1 during a period when the Tir na Og men were reduced to 14 players following a black card picked up by Matthew Laverty. That period shortly before the half time break and immediately after it proved to be the springboard for the Moy victory.
Clonoe had raced into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead by the 8th minute thanks to a Declan McClure point which might have ended up in the net were it not for a brilliant Philip Mallon save, and two more points from Danny McNulty and Daryl Magee. Moy’s sole score in that period came from a 47 metre free from Michael Conroy. By the quarter hour mark the sides were level at 0-4 apiece. Moy hitting three frees from Ryan Coleman and Clonoe adding another point from Fintan McClure.
Both sides shared the next four points. Clonoe’s two point coming from two Daryl Magee frees and Moy adding scores from Ryan Conroy and Michael Conroy. A minute from the end of the opening half Matthew Laverty was ordered into the bin but that didn’t stop his side hitting the last point of the half with a Michael Conroy free. Half Time – Moy 0-7 Clonoe 0-6.
Despite the man down Moy controlled the third quarter. A 35th minute Ryan Coleman free was cancelled out two minutes later with a Declan McClure point before Coleman added another point and then a superbly taken goal in the 39th minute. Connor McAliskey had to wait until the 44th minute to open his account but that score was wiped out by another two Moy points from Ryan Coleman and Connor Mackle in the 46th and 51st minute.
With eight minute to go Connor McAliskey reduced the deficit to five points ahead of another Michael Conroy free from 48th metres. Two Clonoe frees from Daryl Magee and Connor McAliskey dragged the Rahilly’s back to within four point again but that was as close as they would get. Conroy swapped points with McAliskey before Steve Donaghy popped up in the 62nd minute to cement the win with another well taken goal. The final score of the contest came from Clonoe’s Darragh McGrath.
