Naomh Padraig produced a dominant second half performance in Stewartstown on Saturday afternoon to land the Grade 3 Under 16 Championship title over Cookstown.  The winners had trailed by three points at the break but cracked home a goal and six points during the second period to seal the win.

Cookstown opened the first half scoring with the first of three early points from Peter McGurk and by the 10th minute the Fr Rock’s men were 0-3 to 0-0 ahead. Naomh Padraig narrowed the gap to a point by the quarter hour mark with scores from Aidan Dorman and Michael Robinson.  Eoghain Donnelly moved Cookstown two ahead with a free in the 23rd minute before Sean Monaghan found the Naomh Padraig net a minute later.  Naomh Padraig kicked the last two scores of the half as Caolan O’Donnell and Michael Robinson both pointed.  Half Time – Cookstown 1-5 Naomh Padraig 0-5.

The Naomh Padraig men made the the most of the breeze in the second half reducing Cooktown’s scoring to just two points in the 31st and 59th minute.  In between Michael Robinson, Conor Fitzgerald and Jamie Watt all hit points for Naomh Padraig.  A 48th minute major from Conor Fitzgerald turned the contest and final points from Watt, Fitzgerald and Aidan Dorman eased Naomh Padraig to a 1-10 to 1-6 win.
