Fantastic news from the world of Handball today when young Carrickmore star Caolan Daly won an epic Boys Under 19 final against Mayo’s Stephen Cooney in The Irish Nationals on Sunday at Kingscourt. Further good news for Caolan as he will now travel to San Diego for the US Championships on the 21st of December as captain of the Irish team.
After coming from behind to win the first game 21-19, Caolan lost the second 21-15 before coming from 4-0 down in an incredible tie break to win 11-9 in a match which lasted two and a quarter hours.
Having earlier in the day beaten Eoghan Hennessey of Kilkenny in the semi final Caolan played through the pain barrier to beat Cooney in a truly unforgettable final. There was a huge contingent of Tyrone players and supporters at Kingscourt and no doubt the highlight for them all was young Daly’s fantastic win which was laced with skill and character. There will be further details tomorrow on how the other Tyrone players got on this weekend.
