North Tyrone Derbies Result In Wins For CNG and Sigersons
Saturday 06.09.2025
Greencastle hosted the North Tyrone championship double header on Saturday afternoon with CNG facing Urney and Strabane taking on Castlederg.
First up was the clash between CNG and Urney which resulted in a 2-17 to 2-10 win for CNG. Indeed there were joyous scenes at the end as the Clans deservedly recorded their first win in the championship in just over eight years.

Urney were caught cold in the opening minutes as CNG enjoyed the perfect start. Playing into the wind CNG hit the net twice inside the opening twelve minutes with Player of the Match David Conway bagging both their goals. Robbie Conway, Keenan Donaghey, Ciaran Kerlin and Gareth Mc Dermott fired over points as CNG led 2-4 to 0-1 after thirteen minutes. Sean Hughes with the only response from the Urney lads.

However Urney got themselves back into the contest and a goal from Ryan Henry and one also from the boot of Conor Mc Daid changed the complexion of the contest for the remainder of the half. As well as his goal Mc Daid landed a handful of points as the border men reached the break leading 2-6 to 2-4.
The big concern at the break was would Urney have the staying power for the remainder of the contest. As they soon learned they didn’t and CNG hit six in a row at the start of the second period to move four clear and in control.

CNG forged ahead and with Conor Devine, Ciaran Kerlin, Damian Ball, and Robbie Conway asking questions of the Urney defence they were soon on top and looking good value for a place in the quarter finals. Shea Browne began to find space and clipped over a number of scores but it was their defensive work in the second half that was most impressive. They prevented Urney from finding the net on more than one occasion and so CNG went on to win on a scoreline of 2-17 to 2-10.
The second game of the double header went as most people expected it to as Sigersons saw off the challenge of neighbours Castlederg 2-17 to 1-9 with Oran Mc Grath top scoring with 1-7 and picking up the Go Power Man of the Match award.

Mc Grath opened the scoring before two Corin Mc Connell points put the Derg in front. Kelvin Nelson palmed one to the net for Sigersons thirteen minutes in before points from Darren Traynor and Mc Connell put the underdogs ahead.
A converted Haydn Mc Namee free tied the scores before Mc Grath fired over a two pointer to put Strabane two ahead. However their lead did not last too long as Corin Mc Connell landed a monstrous kick for a two pointer to bring the teams level again. In spite oof this it was the Sigersons who went off at half time the happier of the two sides as late points from Mc Grath and the impressive Oisin Mc Gillion left the half time score 1-6 to 0-7 in favour of Strabane.

Sigersons played wind assisted in the second half but suffered an early blow when they were reduced to fourteen men following a straight red card for Kelvin Nelson.
Strabane continued to control the contest and points from Mc Namee and and a brace of two pointers from Mc Grath ended any real resistance from Castlederg and even late points from Mc Connell and Adam Traynor were little more than window dressing.
Unsurprisingly Strabane made it through to the last eight without too much bother.
Full Time Score: Strabane 2-17, Castlederg 1-9
