Omagh and Carrickmore served up a superb game of football in Gortin on Monday night before St Endas finished strongly to win the U14 Grade One title 4-6 to 1-7.

This was a real high octane contest between two very talented and very evenly matched teams. Both defences produced some superb blocking, tackling and last ditch defending to keep the score down as both teams created some excellent chances.

Carrickmore opened the scoring with a brace of early points from Caoimhe Coyle and the live wire Sorcha Gormley. Omagh hit the net shortly after when Emer Cunningham found space where there previously had been none. Cunningham added a point before Omagh edged 1-3 to 0-2 ahead with points from Áine Strain and Emer Mc Canny.

Both sides swapped scores before the break as the half time whistle sounded with Omagh leading 1-4 to 0-4.

The pace never let up in the second half as both teams went in search of the win. Sorcha Gormley drove the Carmen girls on as she landed the first two scores of the second half. However Omagh’s Emer Mc Canny showed true leadership qualities as she, Meabh Mc Glinchey and Shauna Mc Crory won vital possession to deny Carrickmore several clear scoring chances.

Mc Crory and Gormley both hit the net for their respective teams and with less than five minutes remaining a single goal separated the teams.

It was then that Omagh really showed their worth with two well worked goals from Mc Crory and Áine Cunningham to put the county town side nine clear as the game entered added time. Carrickmore did land the last score of the game courtesy of a point from Gormley but the Omagh defence refused to yield any further scores and they ran out deserved 4-6 to 1-7 winners.
