Omagh CBS D’Alton Cup Update
Omagh CBS have progressed to the quarter finals of the D’Alton Cup after finishing second in a highly competitive Group A.
They opened their campaign in January with an impressive win over a strong Ballymena side in MUSA. Despite trailing by three points at half time, Omagh showed great resilience in the second half to turn the game around. Led by Tiernan Catterson and Daniel Norris, they controlled the second half and finished strongly to secure their first two points of the campaign.
Their second group game saw them travel to the Bawnacre in Irvinestown to take on St Michael’s Enniskillen. Entering the match as favourites, Omagh justified that tag with a dominant first-half display. The hard-working Aodhan Corrigan and Arthur Barrett in the Omagh half back line laid the foundations for the win while Enda McNamee provided accurate finishing up front to guide them to victory.
A long journey to the Mourne mountains for their third fixture against St Malachy’s Castlewellan proved challenging. Omagh struggled to get going and spent much of the first half pinned inside their own half. Strong defensive performances from Michael Dara O’Brien and Conor Kelly kept them in touch, and although they rallied well after the break, the damage had been done and Castlewellan ran out deserved winners.
They made the shorter trip to Garvaghey to play their final group game against St Patricks Cavan knowing a win would secure a quarter final spot. Omagh settled quickly, controlled possession, and capitalised on a goalkeeper error to score a well‑taken goal that helped establish a solid half‑time lead. Knowing a win would put them through to the QF’s spurred a second half revival from Cavan and two goals in the second half closed the gap but time ran out for them, and it was Omagh who progressed.
