Omagh CBS 1-14 St.Mary’s Magherafelt 3-7

Omagh CBS Dalton Cup team completed a very successful twenty four hours for Gaelic Football within the school when they snatched an injury time one point win over St Mary’s Magherafelt to send them through to the final where they will play the winners of the second semi final between Abbey CBS and St Ronan’s Lurgan.

An excellent strike from back Odhran Goodman sealed the win and sent the Omagh contingent wild with delight as they celebrated securing a place in the final on a  1-14 to 3-7 scoreline.

It was a game that was packed with quality football and laced with lots of skill as two very evenly matched teams went at it for the duration. Omagh established a three point lead at the short whistle and when they increased that to five shortly after the restart they appeared to be well in control.

However Magherafelt showed their worth as they battled back to earn and convert a penalty before they hit a third goal with less than eight minutes remaining to lead for the first time. The teams swapped points as Omagh were forced to come from behind before young Goodman fired over the winner and Omagh took their place in the final.

The winners were on top from the off with an 8th minute Patrick Turner goal coming either side of points from Daniel Colton and Jack McCarroll as they opened up an eight point lead 1-5 to 0-0.

Magherafelt shook off their lethargy and held Omagh scoreless for the remainder of the half and a goal from Jude Devlin reduced the deficit to a more manageable three points.

Omagh began the second half positively with points from Billy McElholm and Cormac McGarvey before Matthew Ward converted a St.Mary’s penalty and it was now game on. McGarvey, Turner and Dan Sheridan exchanged points with Daithi Kane, Pauric McGuckin and Ward before a Loughran goal put Magherafelt in front in the 52nd minute.

Colton levelled only for Ward to put the Derry school back in front. With a minute of normal time left McGarvey sent over the equaliser but with extra time looming Goodman snatched the win and sent Omagh CBS through to the final.
