Omagh CBS made it through to the quarter finals of the Mac Rory Cup after a 2-15 to 1-5 win over St Pat’s Cavan at Augher on Monday afternoon.

The Tyrone side were on top from the off but showed signs of rustiness early on as they spurned several excellent chances of goals.

Eoghan Donaghy opened the scoring for the CBS and the impressive Callum Daly doubled the lead with a fine point from play. Cian Kenny struck for Cavan’s first score of the day but Omagh’s response was telling. Eoin Mc Elholm pointed and in the next attack Ruairi  Mc Cullagh netted his side’s first goal to put Omagh 1-3 to 0-1 in front.

Oisin Browne and Neill Reilly clipped over points to put the Cavan side back in the contest but a further brace of points from Mc Cullagh and a finely worked point from his club colleague Mc Elholm sent the CBS in at the break leading by five with Oisin Browne scoring Cavan’s final point of the half.

Omagh looked much sharper after the break. They restricted Cavan to pot shots resulting in a point and a fortuitous goal over the course of the thirty minutes while Eoghan Donaghy, Conor Owens, Liam Óg Mossey, Eoin Mc Elholm, Ruairi Mc Cullagh, Callum Daly  and Charlie Donnelly all hit points for the CBS while Mattie Howe bagged his side’s second goal to seal a 2-15 to 1-5 win.
