Omagh CBS Two From Two In Corn na nOg
Thursday 12.10.2023

It’s two wins from two starts for Omagh CBS in their league section of the Corn na nOg following a tough and highly competitive game against a very talented St Patrick’s Cavan side on Thursday afternoon at Brookeborough.
The teams shared eleven goals between them but it was the Omagh lads who emerged victorious on a scoreline of 6-9 to 5-9.
Omagh opened the scoring with a point apiece from Matthew Garrity and Daniel Mc Gurren but Cavan, with Senan Smyth and Darren Mc Crystal on target were soon level.
A Mc Crystal goal had Cavan in front but back came Omagh once more with a goal from Mark Murphy. Smyth clipped over a brace of frees before points from Excel Imade and Conor Mc Cabe put the Breffni lads ahead by five. Omagh rallied and Cormac Darcy found the net to finish the first half scoring. The sides went off at the break with St Pats leading 1-7 to 2-2.
Omagh began the second half strongly with points from Conal Loughran and Darcy (2) before they were awarded a penalty which was excellently converted by Aidan Corry. Daniel Mc Gurren added another Omagh point but Cavan then hit something of a purple patch with a Mc Crystal point and a goal from full forward Sen Smyth.
Omagh’s response was as devastating as it was quick with two goals from Cormac Darcy and one from the highly effective Tom Gallen. Omagh added a further two points before Smyth chipped in with a point for St, Pats. With three minutes left on the clock the game seemed to all intents and purposes to be home and hosed but Cavan came back with a stunning finish to almost snatch victory from the jaws of feat. A brace of goals from Conor Mc Cabe and a further major from Senan Smyth had Omagh rattled but they held on to take the win on a final score of 6-9 to 5-9.
Next up for the Brothers is a derby clash with St Michaels Enniskillen.
