Omagh CBS made a disappointing exit from this year’s Danske Bank MacRory Cup when they were well beaten by holders St.Mary’s Magherafelt in the quarter final at Loup on Wednesday evening.

The Brothers struggled to get going and Magherafelt were well on their way to the last four by the break as they held a 2-4 to 0-1 lead. James Garrity got Omagh’s sole point with Giuseppe Lupari and Cormac Murphy finding the net for a Magherafelt side who had Adam Connolly sent off in the closing stages of the half.

The second half was only five minutes old when Omagh were thrown a lifeline with a goal from defender Rory Kennedy but the winners quickly got on top again. Conall Devlin and Conor O’Neill had points either side of a Liam Quinn goal as Omagh were reduced to fourteen men as well when Caolan Slevin was dismissed. Euan McBride then put the icing on the cake for Magherafelt with a last-minute goal as it finished 4-9 to 1-3. That means this this year’s MacRory Cup semi finals will be two derby affairs with St.Ronan’s Lurgan taking on St.Pat’s Armagh on February 23rd and St.Mary’s Magherafelt meeting St.Pats Maghera two days later.
