County champions Omagh St Endas made a successful start to their defence of the county championship as they easily accounted for a below par Carrickmore side at Pomeroy on Friday evening.

A large and expectant crowd turned up at Plunkett Park looking forward to another titanic tussle between these two sides but were disappointed early on as both teams struggled to cope with the elements . Omagh played with the aid of the gale in the first half but seemed to have left their shooting boots behind as they hit twelve wides during the opening thirty minutes. Paul Mc Aleer and Martin Penrose found the target for Carrickmore but Omagh still managed to reach the break 0-6 to 0-2 in front following scores from Ronan O’Neill (3), Jason Mc Anulla (2) and Conor Clarke.

Carrickmore took five minutes to open their account in the second half but failed to score again as Omagh controlled the game to the end. Conor Meyler, Conan Grogan and Joe Mc Mahon stood out for the winners as they held possession and ran from deep to create chances for their forwards. A straight red card for Martin Penrose midway through the second half all but ended the game as a contest as Carrickmore struggled to create chances. Omagh’s Ronan O’Neill finished the game with 0-6 as St Endas eased to a seven point win on a final score of 0-10 to 0-3.

Scorers:

Omagh; Ronan O’Neill (0-7), Jason Mc Anulla (0-3), Conor Clarke (0-1).

Carrickmore; Paul Mc Aleer, (0-1), Martin Penrose (0-2).
