An impressive first half display laid the foundations for Omagh CBS as they accounted for St.Macartan’s Monaghan in their Danske Bank MacRory playoff at Father Hackett Park in Augher on Thursday afternoon.

James Garrity hit the opening two points of the game but in the 8th minute Omagh CBS were rocked when Macartans corner forward Cormac McKenna palmed the ball to the net. The rest of the first half though belonged to Omagh as they seized control. With Antoin Fox and Caolan Slevin outstanding in the centre of their defence they began to pour forward. Slevin’s half back partner John McCrory drilled in a well taken goal while Liam Gray hit a brace of points and Oisin Gallogly and Garrity were also on target to leave it 1-7 to 1-1 at the short whistle.

Points from Aaron Mohan and Robert McAlister closed the gap in the third quarter before the former went perilously close to a goal when his palmed effort just cleared the bar. Amazingly with thirteen minutes still to go that proved to be the Monaghan lads’ last score of the game. They had wing back Ryan Kelly straight red carded ten minutes from time before Omagh CBS got their only second half score, an outstanding side-line conversion from Garrity as it finished 1-8 to 1-4.
