Omagh Claim Camogie Crown

Omagh St Endas and Eire Óg Carrickmore served up a high quality Eileen Coney Cup final this evening at sun kissed Clanabogan before the county town girls emerged victorious on a 3-11 to 1-8 scoreline.

The St Endas wing half forward Caitlin Leonard picked up “ The Player of the Match” award but in truth there were superb displays from players on both teams and stars all over the park.

Eire Óg started well but with Omagh resolute in defence scores were hard to come by. Omagh settled to the task and  Cora Mc Crory took advantage of hesitancy in the Eire Óg defence to hit the net. With their confidence growing they soon added points through Emer Cunningham (3) and Caitlin Leonard to lead 1-4 to no score.

Annie Loughran opened the Eire Óg account just before the water break but with Grainne Cassidy and Emer Cunningham in top form Omagh restricted Eire Óg to four further points leading up to half time while hitting two goals and a point themselves, Their goals came from Beibhinn Moloney and Cora Mc Crory while the Eire Óg scorers were Niamh McElduff, Lauren Mc Mahon and Orlaith Mc Elduff.

The second half was every bit as competitive as the opening thirty minutes but once again the resolve and commitment of the Omagh defence stood out. Eire Óg threw everything at Omagh and took great inspiration from a forty fifth minute Lauren Mc Mahon goal. Unfortunately for the Carmen girls they failed to breach the Omagh defence again and three points was their tally for the remainder of the game with scores from Annie Loughran and Niamh Mc Elduff. Omagh landed six points of their own in the second period with Emer Cunningham’s accuracy one of the highlights of the game.

Final Score: OSE 3-11 Carrickmore Eire Og 1-8
