Minor Title Wrap Up In Association With Darren Hamill Civil Engineering
Omagh St Endas produced a stirring opening thirty minutes as they saw off the challenge of Kildress to lift the Grade 1 Ladies Minor Championship title on Thursday at Carrickmore. A first minute penalty converted by Shauna Mc Crory gave them the perfect start and by the thirteenth minute they led 3-4 to no score with their goals coming from Emer Mc Canny and Emer Cunningham.
Kildress looked shell shocked early on as they struggled to cope with the pace, athleticism and teamwork of the Omagh girls. Jodie Mc Crory opened the scoring for the Wolfe Tones before Katie Rose Muldoon drove through for their first goal. Una Mc Crory added a fourth goal for Omagh with points from Emer Cunningham, Aine Cunningham, Leah Swift, and Emer Mc Canny while Kildress midfielder Marianna Loughran hit a further 1-1 to send her team in at the break trailing 4-9 to 2-2.
The second half saw a much more competitive KIldress side rise to the challenge. Katie Rose Muldoon and Marianna Loughran added points to give their team hope but Omagh responded with the next three points. Muldoon then found the net for her team to leave ten between them. With ten minutes of the second half gone Aine Strain broke through to fire in her team’s fifth goal and seal the win.
Both teams battled hard and went close in their search for goals but defences remained on top and although Therese Loughran fired in a fourth goal for the Wolfe Tones Omagh confidently kept them at arm’s length and thanks to another Emer Cunningham goal cruised to a 6-17 to 4-9 win.
