It was the clash of the “Loretos” at Youthsport today when Omagh met Letterkenny in the Colleges under twenty game. The Omagh school were missing a couple of players due to their involvement in Ulster Club fixtures this weekend. However that did not affect them unduly as they built up a 0-10 to 0-03 lead by the break. Omagh were very sharp to the break ball and with Niamh O’Neill amd Ellen Mc Cullagh sweeping up most of the Letterkenny attacks the Tyrone girls made the most of their possession. Eva Hicks and Teri Mc Cusker kicked seven points between them in the first half with Fonnuala Conwell 0-02 and Nichola Donnelly 0-01 also getting on the score sheet.
Letterkenny battled gamely with Catherine Boyle outstanding for her side but had only three Dara Kelly points to show for their first half endeavours. The Donegal girls upped the ante somewhat in the second half with Rose Boyle and Emer Gallagher prominent but try as they may they could not breach the Omagh defence where Tori Mc Laughlin, Shauna and Ciara Mc Nabb, Clara Mc Menamin and Ellen Mc Cullagh were outstanding.
Second half sub Colleen Mc Quade knocked over an early score and by the midway point of the second half Omagh had added a further five points to move 0-16 to 0-03 ahead with Ciara Mc Mahon and Shannon Tracey getting among the scorers. However they failed to score for the remainder of the game and Dara Kelly(0-03) and Rose Boyle 0-01 closed the gap to 0-16 to 0-07 before referee Stephen Mc Namee sounded the final whistle.
