Tyrone have received a major boost ahead of their forthcoming Ulster championship preliminary round clash with Down with the news that Stephen O’Neill returned to competitive action on Sunday afternoon.

The 2005 Football of the year hadn’t played since last year’s All Ireland semi-final defeat at the hands of Mayo but he came on yesterday for his club Clann na nGael and scored two points to help them secure a narrow win over Aghaloo.

O’Neill had returned to County training last Thursday night and this is the latest step on his road to recovery after being plagued with injury last season. While he is unlikely to feature from the start it gives manager Mickey Harte further attacking options ahead of that May 18th showdown with the Mourne men.
