Clonoe 1-17 Moy 0-9

Clonoe justified their favourites tag when they eased into the last eight of the LCC senior championship thanks to this eleven point success over Moy at Plunkett Park.

It was always going to be a tough test for Moy and their prospects weren’t helped when Colm Cavanagh and Michael Conroy were both ruled out through injury. Clonoe led by double scores at halftime, 1-7 to 0-5, with Ryan McCabe’s goal the major score during that period. Rahillys full forward Colm Doris had the game’s opening two points but Moy were level by the 13th minute thanks to efforts from Paddy Lavery and defender Chris O’Neill. Clonoe though were making the most of any scoring opportunities that came their way and after Patrick Doris scored via the post midfielder Ryan Morrow was on target as was Fintan McClure with a quality effort from out on the right wing.

Moy though were staying in touch with former Tyrone star Sean Cavanagh kicking their next three scores all from frees, a point rom play from wing half back PJ Lavery sandwiched in between. In the 26th minute Clonoe struck for their goal when great work from Lavery saw him beat a couple of challenges before offloading to Colm Doris who in turn found McCabe and he gave keeper Calum Fleming no chance with a finish to the roof of the net from close range. Paul Coney then had the final say of the half with a fine point as Clonoe deservedly led by five.

In the second half Clonoe took over playing some superb attacking football. The impressive Paul Coney kicked the first two points of the half before Colm Doris got another one. Danny McNulty then came off the bench to make a significant impact with the first of his five points coming from a “45”. Sean Cavanagh converted a Moy free but Clonoe responded with points from play from Patrick Doris and McNulty. Peter Mallon and Cavanagh registered for Moy but it was Clonoe’s night with another brace from McNulty as they made it through to a quarter final meeting with Trillick.
