Yesterday morning as Augher and Tyrone Gaels were preparing to bid farewell to Fergal Mc Cann, shockwaves were felt throughout the county when news filtered through that Paddy Gallagher of Drumragh Sarsfields had passed away. Paddy represented Tattyreagh in his formative years and when his late father Hugh helped found Drumragh in 1972, Paddy went on to have an outstanding career for Sarsfields. On the field Paddy wore the club and county jersey with pride, was fearless, hugely determined, led by example and was a fierce competitor. When he stopped playing, Paddy threw himself into coaching and managing teams and brought huge success to his club. Paddy is also fondly remembered by many in New York GAA circles having spent some time there. Paddy gave a lifetime of service to the GAA serving his club in many roles including chair and most recently on the county committee. Paddy Gallagher was renowned all over the county for his enthusiasm, warmth, friendship and above all his inherent passion for the GAA. Paddy’s death leaves a huge void in Drumragh and beyond and we extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Patricia, his children, mother, brothers and sisters, family circle and his many friends.
