St Macartan’s v Errigal Ciaran

Saturday 12 noon @ Killeeshil

Tyrone senior champions St Macartan’s will attempt to wrap up their season with a remarkable eighth division one title in a row when they face Errigal Ciaran in a Saturday highnoon showdown at Killeeshil. The Macartan’s lost by a single point to Termon last weekend in the Ulster club and that perhaps makes them even more focused on ending the current season with the league shield.

With the four in a row of senior championships under their belts an unprecedented eight in a row of league titles is up for grabs for the Ryan Mc Menamin led Macs, his players remain as hungry as they ever were but will be well aware that they face a massive challenge against a well drilled Errigal side filled with lots of experience but minus silverware at this level for several seasons.

The Dunmoyle girls topped the table at the end of the normal league programme and maintained  a 100% winning record but missing out on league and  championship honours has been hard to take and this group of players is determined to make its mark. Backboned by players emerging from five in a row championship winning minor sides they are in the mood to halt a tremendous run of success by the Macs.

There’s no doubting the quality of this experienced Errigal side. Players like the Canavan’s, Aine and Maria, Shannon Cunningham, Michaela Moore, Meabh Corrigan, and Lycrecia Quinn have proven track records but while they beat Macartan’s in the league they fell heavily when the sides last met as they lost 3-13 to 0-8 .

There’s no doubting the potency of this St Macartan’s attack. Chloe Mc Caffrey top scored again in the senior championship while alongside her, Jolene Donaghy, Cathy Maguire and  Paula Donnelly  have again set the benchmark in Tyrone football. Captain Niamh Mc Girr and Slaine Mc Carroll have been superb in defence too and with Maura Mc Menamin and Lynda Forde still at their best Macartans will once again start as favorites at Killeeshil.

Throw in time is now 12 noon with both teams agreeing the earlier start time.
