The Tyrone GAA world has been plunged into sadness with the news of the untimely death of Paul Hughes. “Buzzer” as he was affectionally known was a Gael through and through, a gentle giant off the field but a fierce competitor on it for his beloved Eglish. He helped the St.Patricks win back to back minor championship titles in 1986 and 1987, captaining the side in the first of those years, while he also played a key role when they won the Intermediate championship in 1997. Paul also played county football at minor and U21 level winning an Ulster U21 medal in 1990 in a year when Tyrone reached the All Ireland final only to lose out to Kerry. Paul knew the game inside out and it was no surprise that he went into management when his playing days were over and had spells in charge of Killeeshil and Scotstown and was due to take the reigns of Galbally this year. A great lad who will be sorely missed by all in GAA circles in Tyrone and further afield. Sympathy is extended to his wife Noeleen, sons Sean and Matthew, daughter Amy, mother Sheila, brother Ambrose and entire family circle.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
