CHAMPIONSHIP|Pearses Through At Second Time Of Asking
Saturday 12.09.2015
Twenty two minutes into this Intermediate Championship quarter final replay at Dungannon there looked as though there was only going to be one winner as Derrylaughan held a 2-5 to 0-3 advantage. However Galbally produced a superb second half and turned the game on its head to book a semi final spot against Urney next weekend.
Ciaran Quinn blasted in a third minute goal for the Kevin Barrys with Brian Kennedy and Darragh Carney among the points. When a long range Darragh Carney free sailed all the way to the net the Kevin Barrys looked to be in complete control. Crucially though Galbally got the last three points of the half from Sean Murphy and the superb Paul Rafferty [2] to give themselves hope for the second period.
Derrylaughan had the opening score of the second half within sixty seconds of the restart through Gervin but they were to register just once more in the remainder of the contest. Rafferty hit another brace before Damian McCrory palmed the ball to the net after a Declan Murphy shot had come back off the post.
Martin McStravog then put two between the sides again but Derrylaughan weren’t to score in the final quarter. A Paul Rafferty free was followed by a well taken point from his brother Liam as the Pearses levelled matters. All the momentum was now with Galbally with Sean Murphy, Enda McGarrity and Declan Murphy putting them three in front. In the final minute of normal time Derrylaughan were awarded a penalty when Ciaran Gervin was fouled but his brother Liam’s spot kick was well saved by Mickey Corr as Galbally won on a 1-13 to 2-7 scoreline.
