Based on league form Drumragh went into the second game in the double bill of Junior championship games at Eskra on Sunday evening as favourites but Fintona didn’t read the script as they secured a fine 0-10 to 0-8 victory.

The Pearses dominated the first half playing superb football and were full value for their 0-8 to 0-3 lead. Drumragh midfielder Kevin Marron opened the scoring after only twenty seconds but the Sarsfields had to wait until the 41st minute for their next score from play. Aaron McCarney weighed in with five first half points with Niall Mellon getting a brace.

Shane Cleary and McCarney traded points from frees on the restart before the latter notched an eye catching effort from play. Cleary then pointed from a free as well as from play before Fintona were dealt a blow when midfielder Sean Connolly got a second booking eleven minutes from time.

Marron left just a score between the sides from a placed ball to set up a tense finish. In the final minute of normal time Fintona keeper Kieran McDonald produced an outstanding save to deny Cleary an equalising goal at the expense of a “45”. Marron knocked over the resulting kick but the Pearses held out for a deserved victory.
