Galbally 3-13 Drumquin 0-20
Galbally are grade two minor championship winners for 2026 after they came out on top in a brilliant contest with Drumquin at Father Mallon Park in Loughmacrory on Tuesday night.
It was a game that had everything and was played in front of a bumper crowd with extra time being required to decide the destination of the silverware. A strong Drumquin side had the better of things in the first half but they were unable to shake off a spirited Pearses side who stayed in touch thanks to early goals from Odhran McGeary and Patrick Jordan.
A brace of two pointers from Eoin Ferris as well as a number of scores from fellow senior player Kieran McDonagh had the Wolfe Tones seemingly in charge. Hugh Gormley, Jake Donnelly and Jack McCusker also had points for the Wolfe Tones who will feel that they should have been further than 0-12 to 2-2 in front at the short whistle.
A slick moving Galbally side always looked dangerous when going forward and when GHOST PIZZA man of the match Finbar Quinn found the net in the 37th minute it was very much game on. James Hurson levelled matters with Cahir McCallion, Neil McElroy, Daithi McKay and Quinn also on target for their respective sides as the scoreboard read 3-8 to 0-17 at the end of normal time.
Midfielder McDonagh took his personal haul to 0-7 with an orange flag at the beginning of extra time before Ferris opened up a three point gap. Galbally though continued to frow in stature with a McElroy brace closing the gap to the minimum before Quinn edged them in front from a two point free. With the tension growing and time running out Drumquin were guilty of a breach and Quinn punished it with the insurance point as Galbally took the spoils.
