People First Sports Awards 2013 Strabane District Council

The annual People First Sports Awards for 2013 were hosted by Strabane District Council last Wednesday night at the Alley Theatre, Strabane and the G.A.A. locally picked up three out of the ten prestigious awards on offer.
Special guest at the awards ceremony was Ulster and Ireland Rugby star Rory Best with BBC Radio Ulster commentator Liam Beckett also playing a role and Paddy Hunter of Q101 Sport acting as a fine compere for the evening.
Aghyaran St Davog’s were crowned Club of the Year after a very succesful 2013 season that saw them lift nine titles and playing in eleven finals across all grades with their Senior Ladies, Minor boy’s, Juvenile boy’s, Juvenile girls, Under 15 and Under 13 boy’s all claiming titles. 
Strabane Sigersons Senior footballers won the Team of the Year award after they clinched promotion to Senior level for only the second time in fifty years whilst they also lifted the Ulster Intermediate Club League title.

The Special Award on the night went to former Tyrone goalkeeper Pascal McConnell (Newtownstewart St Eugene’s). Pacal had a glittering career with Tyrone prior to his retirement last season winning 3 All Ireland Senior titles, 2 All Ireland Under 21 titles, 1 All Ireland Minor, 4 Ulster Senior, 2 Ulster Under 21’s, 1 Ulster Minor, 6 McKenna Cup and 2 Inter Provincial titles not including several club titles also won with Newtownstewart.
