Plunketts Send Gortin Down
Monday 06.10.2025
Pomeroy 1-16 Gortin 0-13
This was the third meeting between these two sides this season and it was no doubt the most important one as Pomeroy once again came out on top at Plunkett Park to win this relegation playoff and send Gortin straight back to Intermediate football for 2026.
The hosts had the wind at their backs in the first half and they made it count as they dominated proceedings after Jude Campbell and Fiacra McNulty had swapped early points. Midfielder Ryan Loughran had a brace of two pointers with Hugh McNamee also raising an orange flag and Marty Coyle and Campbell also on target as they established a 0-12 to 0-5 lead, Liam Og Mossey with a couple of frees for the visitors.
Gortin lost Mossey to an injury but despite McNamee increasing Pomeroy’s advantage on the restart the visitors produced a sterling comeback. Sean Og McAleer landing a trio of two pointers with Ruairi Keenan also on target as they closed the gap to two. Crucially though Pomeroy then grabbed the only goal of the game when Peter Raffertry centred for full forward McNamee to palm to the net from close range. It proved to be the match winning score as Gortin missed a few chances and Pomeroy saw the game out to set up a meeting with either Moy or Coalisland.
