The Tyrone senior team will start their Intermediate Ulster championship campaign on Sunday against Down II in Ballycran at 12:00pm. The team will take some comfort from their fine display in the All Ireland camogie league Division 4 final against Carlow. Tyrone captain and the backbone of the defence Julia Lagan said ahead of the match.
“The team came so close to success in the league final and this has given the girls belief in their style of play. Our clubs are all training hard and this can only benefit us in our next adventure to secure some silverware this year”.
Tyrone camogie representatives were invited to the launch of the Tyrone poc-fada for 2013. The event was held at Dungannon District Council offices on Friday night with a buffet for all who attended. Tyrone camogie clubs are all invited to the poc-fada on Friday 24th starting at 7:00pm at this year’s host club Eoghan Ruadh in Dungannon. There will be two of each camogie under 16s and seniors taking part in the competition. A big thank you to Ciaran Coyle of Eoghan Ruadh hurling for the invitation to the camogie clubs and for all his hard work in setting up the event. Also a massive thanks to Dungannon District Council for their hospitality during the launch and to the Mayor Gildernew, councillors and Tony Fawl of Tyrone hurling and member of the National poc-fada committee from Croke Park. There will be a BBQ from 7:00pm on that Friday evening for players, parents, supporters or even anyone that wants to come along and enjoy the craic with only a small donation per person.
There was four of the Tyrone senior squad in action for their Province on Sunday in Rathleague Portlaoise. Ulster got off to a flyer in their first match winning on a score-line of Ulster 3-14 Connacht 1-7. In the final they were up against Munster and despite taking a first half lead they lost out by a point in the end to a score of Ulster 3-6. Munster 1-13.
There were wins for Doiretreasc, Dungannon and Eglish in last week’s Post Primary league. There will be a full round of under 14 matches and Post Primary matches this week ahead of the championship matches for the Post Primary taking place on the following Monday.
Derrylaughan will host the second of this year’s Go Games Blitzes on Saturday 25th May with registration at 9:30am. All clubs are asked to contact Bronagh Carney from Derrylaughan as early as possible to confirm your attendance and also inform her of the age groups that will participate. The last Blitz held in Edendork was a huge success with over 150 children from nine clubs in u10, u8 and u6 age groups. It is anticipated that Derrylaughan’s will have similar numbers in attendance. Parents are encouraged to stay and watch their kids in what is always a fun and exciting morning for all involved.
All clubs are asked to return their 2012 trophies/shields to the county secretary at the next county board meeting in June.
And finally we wish the Tyrone Hurlers all the best in their semi-final of the Nicky Rackard Cup against Roscommon on Saturday 25th May.
