Pomeroy produced a superb all round team display to defeat Carrickmore on Friday evening by two points on a score-line of 2-10 to 0-14.

County players Frank Burns and Kieran Mc Geary were outstanding for the Plunketts as they led their team to their first league win of the year.

A couple of fine points from the foot of Frank Burns gave Pomeroy the perfect start but Carrickmore responded with scores from their veteran trio of Martin Penrose, Barry Daly and Mark Donnelly to lead by one after eight minutes.

Pomeroy’s response was positive and a Denvir Nugent goal after fourteen minutes had them two in front. Both teams swapped further scores before a brace of frees from the boot of Martin Penrose just before the break sent the sides in level at half time.

Pomeroy pointed straight from the restart and with Burns and Mc Geary driving them on they took the game to their hosts. The tackles flew in and scores and space were hard to come by as both sides fought for every ball.

A superb catch, driving run and finish from John Loughran put the Plunketts 2-8 to 0-11 in front with fourteen minutes remaining. Carmen ran their bench and subs Niall Allison and Tiernan Murray gave them additional impetus. Points from Allison, Sean Loughran and Mickey Slane narrowed the gap to a single point but it was Pomeroy who sealed the win with a late point from Ollie Mc Creesh.

The Plunketts first win of the season however did come at a cost though as they lost Brendan Burns with a serious looking knee injury. Best wishes to Brendan for a full and speedy recovery.
