Pomeroy Lift Grade Two Title
Saturday 08.10.2011

Pomeroy lifted the Grade Two Under 16 Championship title at Rock this afternoon following a two point win over a determined and resolute Kildress team. The game finished 1-11 to 1-09 and with less than a minute left the Wolfe Tones had closed the gap to a single point following a late goal. However Pauric Cunningham settled the Plunkett’s nerves as he hit the final score of the game to secure the title.
James Quinn opened the scoring for Pomeroy but it was an Aidan Woods goal that proved to be the most important score of the game even though it came midway through the first half. They reached the break with the score line reading 1-05 to 0-04 in favour of Pomeroy, Colm Loughran and Francis Og Quinn with KIldress points. Kildress managed to rally in the second half with points from Loughran and Peter Daly but Pomeroy had scores from Ryan Loughran and Gavin Goodfellow to ensure the title went to Pomeroy despite a late KIldress goal from Colm Loughran. Both sides finished the game with fourteen players but while this was a very competitive match it was not a dirty game.
