Pundits Predictions For Weekend’s Games

On Thursday night’s chat-show in Hagan’s Bar in Dungannon we were joined by four very experienced guests who know a thing or two about Gaelic Football. Following discussions on each of the games, the venues and the merits of the various teams we asked them to put their experience to use and predict the winners. Judging by their responses there are clear favourites in each of the matches.

In the opening fixture of the weekend Urney versus Edendork, the absence of Edendork’s key players was seen as a deciding factor with three of the four guests predicting a win for Urney. Following that game there is the clash of the black and whites with Omagh St Endas taking on Eglish. Interestingly in that one all four pundits saw Omagh’s greater scoring threat as the key factor and opted for a win for Laurence Strain’s side.

Sunday evening sees attention turn to Carrickmore. First up in that one a “depleted” and “injury ravaged” Derrylaughan team locks horns with intermediate championship favourites Trillick. Once again all four guests predicted a win for the Reds with their scoring threat and greater squad depth expected to make the difference.

The final game of the weekend sees two of the county’s top club sides going head to head in what is arguably the biggest club game taking place in the country on Sunday. Dromore and Clonoe have been two of the most consistent teams in the county over the past number of years and many expect the winners of this quarter final to go on to lift the O’Neill Cup later in the year.

There was considerable debate about the merits of both teams but all four of our guests predicted that Clonoe will emerge as winners with one claiming that it might take a second game to separate these two great rivals.

Of course opinions are merely opinions and we can look forward to seeing just how well our pundits get on over the weekend with their predictions. The one thing we can be sure of is that we are in for a great day’s football.
