Dean Maguirc Carrickmore and St.Pius Magherafelt must meet again to decide the destination of the Rafferty Cup after they fought out a thrilling stalemate in Stewartstown on Tuesday evening when extra time failed to separate two well matched sides.

The Derry school had the wind at their backs in the first half and they led 0-7 to 0-3 at the break with Darragh Wade and Aaron Donnelly getting all but one of their tally between them, Oran Toal, Lorcan McGarrity and Sean Conneely the marksmen for a Dean side who had two good goal chances which they failed to convert.

Conneely and Donnelly exchanged points on the restart before Magherafelt moved five clear. St.Pius X though failed to score in the final quarter as Dean Maguirc came roaring back. Conneely, Toal and defender Patrick Quinn all scored before Zak Devine forced extra time as it finished 0-9 each. Conneely and Devine gave the Dean a two point lead at the end of the first period of extra time. It was Magherafelt’s turn to reply and when two Wade points came either side of one from Donnelly they had their noses in front. Michael McElduff though sent over the equaliser and after both sides missed chances to win it the wise decision was a replay rather than further extra time as it ended 0-12 each.
