Clonoe 0-12 Coalisland 1-8

Clonoe secured their first senior championship win over neighbours Coalisland since 1991 when they had the minimum to spare in a keenly contested clash at O’Neill Park on Monday evening.

The Rahillys had the wind at their backs in the first half and they established a 0-6 to 0-2 lead with the help of points from Connor McAliskey, Daryl Magee and Darragh McGrath, Sean L Corr and Tiernan Quinn the Fianna marksmen.  Clonoe could have been further in front when McAliskey raced through before unselfishly offloading to Rhys Donnelly but his shot was brilliantly saved by Coalisland keeper Fintan Coney.

Peter Herron and Magee swapped points on the restart before PJ Lavery and a McAliskey brace left the Rahillys in control leading 0-10 to 0-3 going into the last quarter. The Fianna were in trouble but they mounted a strong fightback with points from Corr as well as an opportunist goal from Cathaoir Quinn but despite piling on the pressure Clonoe held on to book a quarter final meeting with Errigal Ciaran.
