Rock will be playing Junior football in 2016 after losing out in a pulsating sudden death playoff away to Loughmacrory on Sunday afternoon. It was a superb encounter from start to finish that required extra time to decide in the end.

The home side got off to a lightning start with a Brendan Donaghy goal after only thirty seconds and by the 17th minute the net had been rattled a further three times through Enda Mallon, Ronan Ward and Padraig Ward. Four Conor McCreesh points helped give Rock the upper hand before scores from Mark McCullagh and Ronan Ward left only two between the sides at halftime.

Aidan McGarrity and Ciaran Ward traded points on the restart before the latter closed the gap. Rock still held the lead until eight minutes from time when Niall Grimes’s first time shot flew into the bottom left hand corner of the net. It took two late frees from McCreesh to level matters and force extra time, 3-6 to 2-9.

Rock were out of the traps quickly with points from Eamon Ward and Ryan Crilly but then Loughmacrory hit a purple patch which ultimately won them the game.  Nathan Kelly, Brian McCrystal, Ronan ward and Ciaran Ward all scored points while Ronan converted a penalty to leave it 4-10 to 2-11 at the turnaround.

despite being down to fourteen men Rock gave it their all with a trio of McGarrity points keeping the outcome in the melting pot but Loughmacrory held on to win a cracker on a 4-10 to 2-14 scoreline.
