Sacred Heart College Defeats Dean In Ladies Under 16.

Sacred Heart College U-16 Girls’ team played their first game of the season against an impressive Dean Maguirc College side. The first 15 minutes of the game saw the Carrickmore girls dominant in all areas of the field as they established a 2-2 to 0-1 lead with Niamh Mc Donagh scoring Sacred Heart’s first point.
Sacred Heart College eventually got to the pace of the game with Aine Mc Grath leading the line. Her determination resulted in a goal for the Omagh College and gave the Sacred Heart girls confidence a great boost. Shauna Brown added a point before Niamh Mc Donagh hit the net for her side’s second goal of the game. When the whistle blew for half time The Dean were five points ahead leading 2-7 to 2-2.
The Omagh College picked up the pace again at the start of the second half and an early goal from the boot of Nicole Murphy put them in a strong position. They continued to push forward and with points from Noleen Carland, Evangeline Johnston and Shauna Brown Sacred Heart found themselves a point up.
However the Dean girls responded to the challenge and scored their third goal of the game midway through the second half to retake the lead. Sacred Heart were forced to dig deep but their efforts paid off as Niamh Mc Donagh hit the net again and this score was followed by another point from Evangeline Johnston to put Sacred Heart in front again. The Carrickmore College continued to press forward while Sacred Heart rode their luck on a few occasions. The Dean hit the woodwork on two occasions and were denied several goals due to a couple of fantastic saves from Sacred Heart keeper Clodagh Mc Cartan. Sacred Heart drove forward late in the game to snatch the final score of the match, a point from Shauna Brown to seal a memorable three point win.
The next round sees Sacred Heart College meet Loreto Milford.
