Sacred. Heart College Miss Out On Loch an Iuir
Monday 15.12.2025
Sacred Heart College Omagh came up short in their Loch an Iuir final against Lecale of Downpatrick at Queens University playing fields on Monday afternoon losing out on a scoreline of 2-10 to 2-6.
The Omagh school will be very disappointed to have lost but they will certainly take pride in the display they produced and the commitment and skill they showed.
The Omagh lads opened the scoring after four minutes courtesy of Conor Murray but , driven on by the probing runs of half back Micheal Johnston Lecale hit 1-5 without reply to lead by seven with fourteen minutes of the first half played.
Omagh appeared to be struggling but a sixteenth minute point from Charlie Byrne got the wheels turning once more. Sacred Heart added a further three first half points from Byrne, Carson Mc Grath and Oran Mc Menamin to send the sides off at the break with Lecale leading 1-5 to 0-5.

Mc Grath opened the scoring after the restart with a third minute goal to tie the scores. Unfortunately Sacred Heart were unable to build on their fine second half start and Lecale moved ahead again with a point from Conor Fitzpatrick and a well crafted goal from wing back Johnston.
With the game in danger of slipping away from them Omagh needed a goal and it arrived when a speculative effort from Oran Mc Menamin slipped through the hands of goalkeeper Oisin Carr. That goal raised the Omagh spirits temporarily but the resurgence did not last and Lecale added three further points as they finished strongly to win 2-10 to 2-6.
