Sacred Heart Girls Begin With A Fine Win

Scared Heart girls U16 began their league campaign on Monday with a home game in St. Pats Park Omagh against Loreto Community School Milford.

Played in windy conditions Sacred Heart started well with Louise Sloan firing over a point inside the opening two minutes before Dearblha Mc Donald hit a quickfire 1-01.

Milford settled to the task and slowly but found the range with 2 points from play leaving just a goal between the sides.

The Omagh College then took control of the game with further scores from Erin Gallagher (point) and  Sophie Ramsey (goal).

Sacred Heart were very much on top but Milford’s defence was working hard to support their attack and in one fast well controlled break from the back the Donegal girls got through for a fine team goal. Sara O’Brien, Jessica Heaney and Bronagh Mossey were strong in defence for the Omagh side with Sharon Kate Mulryan playing well in goals for the first time.  The Tyrone school then seemed to turn up the tempo before half time with Clodagh Mc Cartan scoring 1-01 from play and as the first half came to a close Louise Sloan fired over another point from play to leave the score at the break: Sacred Heart 3-05 Milford 1-02

Milford started the second half well hitting 1-01 inside the opening four minutes. Ciara mc Dermott replied for Sacred Heart with a fine point before Louise Sloan banged a goal following the restart from the kick out.

Milford battled back into the game scoring 2-02 from open play. Questions were being asked of the Omagh school’s defence but Clodagh Mc Ginn,  Cobhlaith Mc Kenna, Rebecca Arnold  and Laura Lee Penrose responded in timely fashion.

Ramsay fired over another point before Mc Donald scored a goal from an almost impossible angle. Casey Mc Hugh linked well with Sophie Kelly to put Sophie Ramsey in for another goal.

Once again however the Donegal girls responded positively and Milford hit back with another 1-01. Louise Sloan then finished the scoring with a point following a strong run from midfield leaving the final score Sacred Heart College 6-08 Loreto Milford 5-06.
