Sacred Heart Lose In U16 Quarters
Thursday 16.01.2014
Sacred Heart girls U16 side travelled to Armagh on Wednesday to face Our Lady and St. Patrick’s Knock in the quarter final of the U16B schools competition. Played in perfect conditions Sacred Heart started well with an early Dearbhla Mc Donald point followed by a fine team goal converted by Evangeline Johnston.
This seemed to wake Knock from their slumbers and with the wind at their backs they scored 2-4 without reply. A point from Ciara Mc Dermott and a second goal from the boot of Dearbhla Mc Donald kept the Omagh girls in the hunt.
Knock then raised their game and scored 2-3 in the lead up to the half time whistle to reach half time in a strong position. The score at the break read Our Lady & St. Patrick’s Knock 4-07 Sacred Heart 2-2.
Sacred Heart began the second half brightly with Mc Donald firing to the net and landing another point. Once again Knock showed their quality with a rapid fire 2-2. A Louise Sloan goal and points from Evangeline Johnston and Ciara Mc Dermott gave the Omagh girls hope. They laid siege on the Knock goal for the remainder of the game but several brilliant saves by the Knock keeper and some goal line clearances denied Sacred Heart a place in the semi final.
Final score: Scared Heart College 6-05 Our Lady & St. Patrick’s Knock 7-13
