Sarsfields Ease Into Last Eight

The second game of the double bill at Killeeshil on Saturday afternoon produced just as emphatic a result as the first as last season’s beaten finalists Drumragh strolled through to the last eight at the expense of Donaghmore Thirds.
The contest got off to an unbelievable start with an early contender for goal of the championship as Donaghmore midfielder Caolan Mulgrew won possession from the throw in before bursting through to finish in style in the bottom right hand of the corner inside twenty seconds. That proved to be as good as it got for them as the Sarsfields quickly assumed control. Ronan Maguire, Blaine Feeney, Lorcan McGrath, Conor Gormley and GO POWER man of the match Kian Murphy all posted points before Mulgrew responded with an orange flag.
Brendan Quinn then fired in Drumragh’s first goal and things got worse for Donaghmore as they had Mulgrew sent off in the 27th minute. From there until half time the Sarsfields tagged on 1-4 without reply with Michael Roche, Tommy Mullin and Maguire getting points either side of a Gormley goal to leave it 2-15 to 1-2.
Matthew McGahan came off the bench for Donaghmore to score a brace of two pointers in the second period but it was Drumragh who picked up were they had left off. Wing half back Niall Maguire landed three points with Murphy grabbing a goal to take his personal aul to 1-9 while Mullin converted a late penalty as they won with plenty to spare.
