There was a super opening to this year’s Scór na nÓg programme with three very enjoyable nights entertainment at Killyman, Aughabrack and Dún Uladh Centre at Killyclogher with thirty one clubs participating in the competitions.

The first two competitions at Killyman and Aughabrack proved to be hugely enjoyable. Eight clubs took part in Killyman with a further seven competing in Aughabrack. The remainder of the clubs attended the Killyclogher venue in what is normally the busiest night given that the adjudications are announced on that night.

There was a full house in attendance at Killyclogher and all enjoyed the great variety of talent on show. Evident from the very start was the large number of clubs participating in the Rince Foirne competition. A total of seventeen clubs took to the stage in this dance competition. Rince Seit, proved to be less popular, with only three clubs, and hopefully this will be an incentive for more contestants next year.

Ceol Uirlise was also particularly well supported with fourteen clubs and Bailéad Ghrúpa with thirteen. Amhránaíocht Aonair had the usual high number of entrants as did the ever popular Quiz. Recitation continues to attract a big number of contestants with a very wide variety of subjects.

The clubs seem to be slightly wary of the new Léiriú (formerly Novelty Act), probably because of the newness of it, but the two Omagh clubs took part and presented new type themes and now that other clubs have seen this they will no doubt give it a go next year. It would be likely that some of the Scór Sinsir teams were watching with a view to performance of their own in the new year.

With all the adjudications complete we are in for two superb nights of Culture at Newtownstewart on 15th November and Eglish on 17th November.
