The adult club season is all but over and last weekend drew the curtain down on all league matters. Finally the outstanding issues of promotion and relegation have been put to bed and for Errigal Ciaran the sense of achievement in retaining their Division One league title will have been tempered by their disappointing exit in the championship.
This weekend sees the outstanding Under 21 grade one quarter finals and the remaining grade two semi final down for decision which in effect means that the club season will once again extend into December. It cannot be easy for teams still in these competitions to keep motivated not knowing when your competition may end. For Rock and Augher in particular last weekend must have caused total chaos as they thought they were set to play each other in the county final and then discovered that the goalposts had quite literally moved. Whatever the reasons behind Brackaville’s readmission to the competition the situation should have been handled better and resolved quicker. Of course Brackaville’s preparations for the semi final can hardly have run too smoothly of late either not knowing whether they were in or out or if their season was over or not. It will be interesting to see which team has coped best with the off field shenanigans as they get set for battle on Saturday and with a place in a county final to play for it could be quite a tussle.
