Senior Camogs Lose Out To Cavan

A weakened Tyrone Senior Camogie side lost out to Cavan 2-8 to 0-7 in their Littlewoods Ireland League clash on Sunday at windswept Greencastle.

The visitors opted to play into the elements in the first half and with a bigger, more physical side made most of the running in the opening thirty minutes . After a period of sustained pressure Sinead Mc Kenna pointed before Hannah Boylan found the net to give Cavan the perfect start.

Orla Smyth extended the Cavan lead on fifteen minutes before Tyrone finally got off the mark. Points from Casey Gallagher and Roisin Mc Erlean (2) closed the gap to three at the short whistle 1-3 to 0-3 with Tyrone facing the elements after the break.


Cavan made their physical advantage count on the restart hitting four early points to stretch their lead to seven. Boylan, Mc Kenna and Caoimhe Mc Kenna with the all important scores. Tyrone needed to find the net to get back into the game but it was Cavan who got the score that sealed the win. Full forward Josephine Maguire got on the end of a through ball and slotted it to the back of the Tyrone net.

Leading by ten Cavan took their foot off the gas somewhat as the game entered the final ten minutes and Tyrone finished strongly with points from two Mc Erlean frees and a brace from the stick of Kira Donnelly to leave the final score 2-8 to 0-7 in favour of the Breffni blues.
