Strabane Sigersons claimed the Division Three Reserve title on Friday night at the home of Naomh Eoghan on a scoreline of 2-14 to 0-19 but such was the competitive nature of the game that the winning score only came deep in added time.

Both teams produced some superb football as the game ebbed and flowed in front of a large crowd before that decisive score from Strabane full forward Oran Whiite deep in added time.

In truth neither team deserved to lose but it was fitting the winning score came from the boot of the Sigersons full forward who along with Tattyreagh’s Gareth Mimnagh (0-14) were the best players on view.

Sigersons goalkeeper Tom Mc Dermott converted two two pointers inside the opening five minutes to give his team the perfect start. Eoin Mc Grath opened the Tattyreagh scoring with a fine strike before Gareth Mimnagh clipped over two points to tie things up at 0-4 apiece with seventeen minutes on the clock.

The pace was relentless as both sides fought for every ball. The battle around the middle was most competitive with big Martin Mongan and Joe Cartin going at it hammer and tongs.

A fast break from Strabane created space for White and the pacy full forward needed no second invitation as he found the net to put his team 1-5 to 0-4 in front. Andrew Allen pointed for the Tatts and Gareth Mimnagh added three points before Oran White pointed to put his side one in front as the first half entered added time.

Strabane finished the half strongly hitting 1-2 in added time with Mongan firing over a point and White adding 1-1 to send the north Tyrone side in at the break leading by six 2-8 to 0-8.

Tattyreagh began the second half strongly with five Gareth Mimnagh points, including two two pointers, and one from Joe Cartin to tie the game Tattyreagh 0-15, Sigersons 2-9. A single Mickey Logue point was all Strabane had to show for their opening fifteen minutes of the second half as Tattyreagh produced the best football of the night.

Stephen Girvan put the Tatts ahead and Mimnagh stretched the lead with some superb shooting. Sigersons were beginning to wane but a converted free from Stefan Conway and a Gary Rouse point tied the scores as the game looked certain to end in a draw.

Two late points from Gareth Mimnagh to take his tally to 0-14 appeared to have won it for the Tatts but there was still more time for further late drama as Sigersons goalkeeper Tom Mc Dermott strolled forward to land a two pointer and level the scores with a single minute remaining.

Strabane were awarded a late free which was converted by Oran White as Sigersons players, management and supporters enjoyed their first senior title win in nearly two decades.

Final score: Strabane Sigersons 2-14, Tattyreagh 0-19.
