Sigersons Through To Last Eight
Tuesday 03.09.2024
Strabane saw off the challenge of Donaghmore Thirds on Monday night at Beragh to progress to the quarter finals of the Tyrone Junior Championship 3-17 to 0-12.
The Sigersons got the perfect start with a goal from Haydn Mc Namee after only ten seconds. It was a lead they would maintain right through to the end of the game. Both sides hit first half points with some excellent scores on view. Ruairi White, Conal Crawford and Ethan Corry got forward to stretch the Strabane lead before Sean Mc Caul opened the Donaghmore account.
Man of the match Mc Namee swapped points with Caolan Quinn before scores from Mc Namee and Kelvin Wilson made it a seven point game. Joe Kelly fired over a brace of points for Donaghmore but it was Strabane who finished the first half scoring with another fine effort from the impressive Kelvin Wilson.
Half Time Score: Strabane 1-7, Donaghmore 0-4.
Strabane maintained their ascendancy in the second half and in spite of being short a few key players they continued to play well as a team. Sean Mc Caul pointed for Donaghmore but Strabane’s Oisin Mc Gillion got his team’s first score of the second half and less than a minute later Haydn Mc Namee hit the net to make it 2-8 to 0-6.

Sean Mc Caul and Caolan Quinn were on target for the Village lads but Kelvin Wilson’s fortieth minute goal ended the game as a contest. Mc Namee and Sean Mc Caul swapped points before a run of four unanswered points from the Sigersons made it 3-13 to 0-8. Sean Mc Caul (2) and Conal Crawford added points for their respective teams and as time ran out a brace each from Oran Mc Grath and Sean Mc Caul finished off the scoring.
Final score: Strabane Sigersons 3-17, Donaghmore 0-12.
