St Ciaran’s Lift Second Provincial Title
Thursday 20.02.2014
St. Ciaran’s, Ballygawley have made it an Ulster double for the school as they claimed the provincial U16 A title to add to the U20B crown won earlier this term. They lifted the title following a 3-6 to 2-0 win over Loreto Omagh at wet and windy Garvaghey earlier today.
With weather conditions causing both teams difficulties the first score only arrived eleven minutes into the game when Shannon Monaghan netted for St. Ciaran’s. Loreto responded well and a penalty from Aimee Coyle levelled matters shortly after. However the Ballygawley school went in at the break 1-4 to 1-0 in front thanks to 3 points from the excellent Maria Canavan and another from captain Eimear Mc Anespie.
In the second half both sides once again found scores hard to come by. Fortunately for St. Ciaran’s they managed to find the net not once but twice courtesy of Cailin Mc Cann and Maria Canavan. Canavan also added a couple of points to bring her personal tally to 1-5 while all Loreto could manage was a second goal from Roisin Devlin. In the end St. Ciaran’s were deserving winners on the day and can now look forward to an All Ireland semi final.
