St.Ciarans Ballygawley’s hopes of an eighth U14 Vocational Schools McDevitt Cup title ended at the semi final stage on Friday afternoon when they lost out to Donegal champions St.Columba’s Glenties in an entertaining encounter at Castlederg, 3-7 to 0-12 the final score line. The Tyrone champions had the wind at their backs and after falling behind to a first minute point they turned things around with four points on the trot from Adam Arthurs, Ciaran Treanor, Conal Monaghan and defender Ben McSorley. Glenties responded with a well taken John McDyre score but St.Ciaran’s replied with a Jody McGlone point. A couple of minutes before the break disaster struck when a Charlie McGuinness free came off the bar and Sean McMonagle gained possession before firing to the net. That left St.Ciaran’s a point in arrears despite having played with the wind in the first half and they never recovered from that setback. The Donegal champions added second half goals from Ethan O’Donnell and Charlie McGuinness and despite late Ballygawley points from Nathan Grimes and McGlone their efforts proved to be in vain.
