St.Ciaran’s Ballygawley 5-20 St.Paul’s Raheny 0-4
St.Ciaran’s Ballgawley will play Balla Secondary School from Mayo in the All Ireland Dr Eamonn O’Sullivan Cup Final after they produced a highly impressive display to secure a comprehensive victory over St.Paul’s Raheny in Crossmaglen on Saturday afternoon.
From the first whistle until the last the winners completely dominated proceedings with an outstanding display of attacking football which their Dublin opponents simply couldn’t live with. In truth the writing was on the wall for Raheny after only ten minutes as they already trailed 0-8 to 0-0 with centre half forward Shea McDermott landing six points for the winners with Matthew Hughes and Marcus McLaughlin also on target. McDermott, Hughes and Darren McAnespie tagged on further points while centre half back Micheal Mullin grabbed their first goal as they led 1-12 to 0-1 at the break, Eoin McGuirk with the Raheny point from a free on the stroke of halftime.
As was the case at the beginning of the game, St.Ciaran’s scored straight from the throw in with full forward Conan Canavan knocking over a two pointer. Right half back Elliot Kerr then got their second goal and the third wasn’t far away either courtesy of McDermott, who finished the contest with a healthy 1-11 to his name. Conor Quinn and Hughes added opoints before Canavan raised a 4th green flag of the afternoon. Luke Hayes had a brace for Raheny with centre half back Oran Hurley notching their only score from play but it was St.Ciaran’s who rounded off the scoring with a Daire McGinn goal.
St.Ciaran’s scorers: S McDermott 1-11 (3 x tpF, 2F), C Canavan 1-3 (1 x tp), M Hughes 0-3, E Kerr, M Mullin & D McGinn 1-0 each, D McAnespie, C Quinn & M McLaughlin 0-1 each
