Aghyaran 5-12 Coalisland 2-4

A week after losing to Coalisland in the semi final of the championship Aghyaran gained some measure of revenge when they beat the Fianna in the Grade 2 U14 League Final in Beragh on Saturday afternoon. It was a game that the young St.Davogs always looked to be in control off and no doubt Coalisland will hope to bounce back when they face Trillick in the Championship decider.

It was the Fianna who got off to a good start with an early Jonathan Blair goal but then Aghyaran got on top with Tiarnan Catterson pulling the strings from centre half forward. Garghan O’Donnell and Seanach McHugh had points before midfielder Ryan McNulty got their first goal. O’Donnell quickly added another major before GHOST PIZZA man of the match Brody McMenamin tagged on 1-1. Tommy O’Neill responded for Coalisland but efforts from James Gallen, McMenamin and O’Donnell coupled with a Daithi McHugh goal left it 4-7 to 1-1 at halftime.

With the wind at their backs Coalisland exerted a spell of pressure and were unlucky to hit the woodwork on three occasions while Aghyaran keeper Reuben McMenamin made a few good saves. Aronas Abaravicius did bag an early goal but despite points from O’Neill they were fighting a losing battle. McMenamin got his second goal with Dara Glynn adding points as Aghyaran ran out deserving winners on the day.
