St.Endas Win Paul McGirr Title
Monday 19.11.2012
St.Endas 1-9 Killeavy 0-7
The coveted Paul McGirr Ulster U16 title will rest in Antrim for the second year running after St.Endas justified their favourites tag with a five point success over Armagh champions Killeavy in Dromore yesterday afternoon.
The Antrim lads laid the platform for their victory in the first half as they established a 1-7 to 0-2 interval advantage and while Killeavy managed to outscore their opponents in the second period they had left themselves with too much to do.
It was Killeavy who actually took the lead through Marc Magennis but then St.Endas took over. James McAuley hit a brace as did man of the match Ruairi Scott and his midfield partner Conan Lyttle. In the 23rd minute Donal Walsh blasted the ball to the roof of the net before Killeavy keeper Blaise McKnight saved a Scott penalty three minutes later. On the stroke of halftime Killeavy were also awarded a spot kick but Micheal McNamee put it over the bar.
In the second half points from Caolan McConville, McNamee and substitute Matthew Larkin helped close the gap to four at one stage but a Scott free steadied St.Endas and when the same player scored from a placed ball in injury time it confirmed them as champions.
