Strabane Sigersons are through to the last four of the LCC Junior Championship after a hard fought 3-8 to 0-12 win over neighbours and rivals Urney.

The winners got off to the perfect start with a brace of goals in the opening three minutes ; one from Haydn Mc Namee and the second from Conal Crawford. Urney responded with a point from Fergal Mc Nulty but Strabane were very much in the mood and added further points through Crawford and Oran Mc Grath with these scores split by a fine Jamie Mc Aleer finish.

Johnny Lafferty fired over a good score under pressure but Strabane replied with scores from Niall Mc Ginley and Haydn Mc Namee to move seven clear. Jamie Mc Aleer reduced the gap to six but with half time approaching Strabane came close to wrapping the game up when another long high ball into the Urney defence broke kindly for Warner Mullen. The big Sigersons forward found himself through one on one with Keith Nelis but the Urney keeper produced a brilliant save and kept his team in the game.

Half time score: Urney 0-4, Strabane 2-4

Urney played wind assisted after the restart and hit three of the opening four points of the second half. Johnny Lafferty was making his presence felt and hit three points with further scores from Jake Lafferty and Ryan Henry. Despite scores from Warner Mullen and Oran Mc Grath Urney were edging closer and in the blink of an eye the gap was down to three points.

With thirteen minutes remaining Warner Mullen once more proved his worth to his side finishing the ball to the net through a mass of bodies to settle any Strabane nerves. Ryan Henry and Fergal Mc Nulty converted frees for Urney to help keep them in the game but any chance of getting something from the game disappeared when Johnny Lafferty received a second yellow card.

Strabane saw out the remainder of the game denying Urney several chances of goals but were powerless to prevent Ryan Henry scoring his team’s twelfth point of the match. That was it for the men in green and gold as Sigersons added points from Oran Mc Grath and Conal Crawford to make it through to a semi final meeting with Stewartstown.

Final score: Strabane Sigersons 3-8, Urney Naomh Columba’s 0-12
