There was a hugely exciting evening of football in Fintona with the semi finals and final of the Grade Two Feile. Eglish overcame host team Fintona in the first semi 4-5 to 2-7 in spite of a spirited second half showing by the Pearses. The other semi was a North Tyrone derby with Strabane and Aghyaran battling it out for a place in the last two. After thirty minutes of compelling football it was the Sigersons who were victorious winning 4-5 to 1-8.
The final itself was a very tight affair for most of the first half and entering the last five minutes Eglish led 0-2 to 0-1 courtesy of points from Dylan Horsfield and Seamus Muldoon with Strabane’s sole score coming from the foot of centre half forward Tom Mc Dermott. However the game changed dramatically in the remaining few minutes with Strabane hitting three goals to go in at the break 3-1 to 0-2 ahead. Those goals came for Adam Bonner, Tom Mc Dermott and Patrick Mc Glinchey.
Heavy rain made good football difficult in the second half but the bigger, stronger Sigerons lads coped best with the conditions and further goals in the second half from Bonner again (2), Nathan Mc Grath and another from Patrick Mc Glinchey plus points from Jack Pergursain and Tom Mc Dermott ensured that the title went to Strabane. Aidan Bonner at wing half back was outstanding for the winners throughout both games and was well supported in defence by team captain Conor Mc Gettigan who accepted the trophy from County Board Official Raymond Monteith following his side’s deserved win.
Final score Strabane 7-3, Eglish 0-2.
