Strabane Referee Travels To Asian Games In South Korea
Sunday 09.10.2011

After twenty-one years of loyal service on the refereeing front, Strabane Sigersons whistler Sean McIntyre can look back on a great career that has seen him travel to officiate at grounds the length and breadth of Ireland and even at such an illustrious venue as Croke Park. That was all surpassed however when last week he was offered the dream chance of a lifetime after Croke Park Ladies G.A.A. contacted him to accompany them to Suwon in South Korea to officiate at the annual Asian Gaelic Games next weekend.
Sean referees at both men’s and ladies levels and has taken charge of many important finals down through the years at Club, County, Provincial and All Ireland level. So this far away trip is certainly the icing on the cake for the long serving former Sigerson’s goalkeeper.
Teams from Hong Kong, Dubai, Japan, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Korea, India and many other parts of Asia will be in attendance at the event.
Also making the trip to South Korea will be G.A.A. President Christy Cooney, Ladies President Pat Quill alongside the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore as the area will also host the 5th Annual Asia Pacific Ireland Business Forum that is hoping to attract business back to Ireland so Sean will be in the presence of some very distinguished guests.
